Headlight Switch: Won't stay on low-beam. 'Stuck' on high beam.
1988 Toyota Van. 2WD. Brown.
Low/High beam switch won't stay in low mode.
Pulling back on the stalk will engage/disengage high beams, but when you let go of the stalk, it always defaults to high.
I can (kinda) feel the 'CLICK' of the high/low selector when I pull back on the stalk, but letting go altogether always = high beams.
If I hold the stalk back ever so slightly, I get low beams. Sometimes I stuff a folded up piece of paper between the stalk and the steering column shroud to keep the lights in low mode. But then I can't really use the turn signals without the 'crutch' falling out.
I was able to remove the light switch stalk and find the little clickybutton that is supposed to trigger the 'high/low' selection. I poked at it with a small skinny rigid thing, seeing if I could get the button to actuate properly. I behaves the same when I poke at it with the thing as when I have the switch stalk connected properly.
Anyhow, my van is basically stuck in brights mode. Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks!!
