Pops out of 4wd, into neutral?
I have manual locking hubs. 4wheel hi and low. 4wd works excellent but it's happened a few times recently where I put it into 4wheel and give it gas and nothing happens-no rear wheel drive, no 4wheel drive, just engine reving. It doesn't even make a sound, just no forward movement. I take it out of first, back into first, still nothing. Then I put it into 2wd and back in 4wd and maybe it works, maybe not. Eventually it goes into 4wd. Then out again into neutral-while still in first gear. Finally I tried going into 4wd low and it didn't pop out. Then from Low to High and it held. It never pops out of gear in 2wd. Maybe shift cables are off? I figure if it were the hubs that 2wheel would still work. Anyone dealt with this?

It's either your transfer case or the shift lever adjustment is messed up. I would suggest checking/adjusting your shift lever free play per the manual before anything else. Hopefully this will fix your problem. Here's a couple of pics I snapped for you regarding this adjustment. Tim

Re: Pops out of 4wd, into neutral?
Well tomorrow took a few days more than it should have. I tried to adjust according to the manual but I thought It needed to go back more than it wanted to. First try in 4wd and nothing-no forward movement at all. Put it in 4wd-low and back 4wd-hi and it worked. I think It's actually adjusted too far back(the plate) for 4wd-hi. So I'm pretty sure it's not the T-case and just an adjustment issue. I think I am putting it past the point of engaging, hopefully. I'll keep going back-alley off-roading every now and then just to check. Time should tell. Thanks for the help.

usually when t-cases go bad, they will pop out of what ever they are in with a loud pop thud kinda noise, not just freewheel, so i would say your right that its just an adjustment issue....
