What's the best process to treat paint chips that are rusting?

I live on the coast and rust issues are really bad out here. I've noticed that little rock paint chips will start to rust out fast.

What is the best process for treating these chips to prevent further rust, as far as specific paint products to use?

For a pencil eraser sized chip, I was thinking about hand sanding it until I no longer saw rust to the size of a quarter and then putting masking tape around it and spray painting it

I would love to know what you or others did as well. I got a lot of rock chips and rust is getting in there.

Let me know if you did what you mentioned.

    Thanks

I’m going to have a try at some chips later this month. I’ll send some pics with the process I’ll use.

You can find the color code of your van (assuming factory paint) on the engine bay badge. Should be 3 characters, mine is 8D8. You can then get touch up paint from many suppliers that exactly matches your paint. To treat the rust, there are a few ways to go about it depending on how big of an area and how easy it is to access. I would personally sand it smooth, add rust converter, then coat with your touch up paint. It can be a PITA, but best done sooner than later. I like to go through and touch up any chips as soon as I see them to prevent rust about once a month.

I found a cheap paint and body shop. took about 3 weeks but he even found the jap color code and kept the original color.
When I went to the nation wide paint shops for a quote they either no quoted me or say they could not match the color
I was a member for 2 years before I bought my van.
