radiator caps

radiator cap ---maybe a dumb question ?? but, here's the story ...

- 1987 2wd runs like a Swiss watch
- have zero cooling system issues/ problems/ leaks, or anything...including today, idling 10 minutes in 95 degree heat...

the radiator cap is from my "burned-down" ex-1986 van
it works perfectly
it's ugly and tarnished, however, from the fire

Can I use a " 1.0" nippondenso cap from my Sienna in place or the " 0.9" ND cap that is on there now ???

it's been in use in the Sienna for 15 years, so, I assume it's a bit weaker than its "new" rating...
am I asking for trouble ? will there be too much pressure ? or, will it be about equal to my "2-year old 0.9 cap" that I've had on there now ?

There are two different style caps. If turned upside down and compared side by side it will be plainly obvious if they are different. 0.9 bar is about 13 psi. 1.0 bar is about 14.5 psi. But why not just buy a new cap? List price is less than $20 from Toyota.

we're selling the 2003 Sienna and I want to swipe it's pretty, shiney, "yellow-stickered" radiator cap and swap it for my ugly one ...


... for no "out-of-pocket"...

Don't go cheap on cooling system parts, 'cuz it will come back to bite you.

The correct, shiny new OEM rad cap from Toyota ~ $15-20
The correct new aftermarket rad cap from NAPA or whatever ~ $5-8

Headgasket ~ $1-2K parts and labor if you can even find someone to do it.

Your money; your call.

okay, i'm gonna get that shiny new "yellow-stickered" cap that I've wanted by buying a new, correct 0.9 marked Toyota cap... no sense bursting something to save ten or fifteen bucks--you guys are right
