    Fuel injector job

Ive looked through the search feature , and found much needed help , however I am replacing fuel injectors on an 86 4y and cannot find the following Toyota part numbers "surge tank gasket " the one that goes between both halves of the intake manifold , throttle body gasket and egr gasket . Any help would be much apreciated.

These part numbers should be correct for all 4Y vans, but I did take them from the '86 diagrams specifically, and so am not guaranteeing other applications (the disclaimer is for future readers of this thread):

GASKET, AIR SURGE TANK TO INTAKE MANIFOLD
    17176-73011

    GASKET, EGR VALVE
    25627-31020

    GASKET, THROTTLE BODY
    22271-73010

three fuel injector jobs in a row and a head job

Ive busted apart an 86 le auto , to replace leaky fuel injectors . no-one else has been there lol.... most orings grommets need replacing . Costumer doesnt wanna spend money , putting it back together with original injectors , new o rings new connectors ...
Next is an 87 Le that belongs to a friend , Number three injector is obviously clogged , gonna rehab/ replace with used parts and new o rings , gaskets and connectors
Then my 87 4x4 gonna do a head job and tackle fuel injectors while at it replacing everything I can with oem parts.

Storing info and part numbers here for easy reference

Tips and links to related threads are appreciated :

Did you see the thread about "Dr. Injector" who rebuilds/cleans/tests fuel injectors?
Might wanna check that out before re-installing those old used ones.

Check out Tim's "weekend rebuild" blog and there's also another one he's posted but I can't remember the name of that one, but it lists all the OEM and AF part numbers, that's one journey you might want to take before opening up your power plant!!!

Good luck and we can't wait to see your hard work!!

Maxmax, I ordered the intake and exhauast manifold gasket set from rock auto under the search section "engine". When splitting the halves, I believe this is the one you'll need. They also sell rebuilt oem injectors, for $26 each.

In post #26 of THIS THREAD I deal with injectors. 84 - 87 vans use the Bosch style injector connectors that are available practically everywhere (just go into a parts store and ask). Here they are on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Motor...&keywords=s697

Re: HELP Needing some part numbers Ive looked and looked

Thanks Tim , as always you are a great help . I'm trying to buy all these parts before I remove my head (87 4wd), as the van is still drivable , (the leaky head gasget is on the far rear corner of the block/head ). I have a head that I saved from a wrecked van I drove , and it looked new when I got the van , I plan on bringing it to the shop first , so it'll be ready to install before I tear into it all .Gonna replace all the hoses and do-dads that are hard to reach . I'll be posting my full list here for comment and suggestion .

A question : Im using a reworked head , should I worry about new push rods or new headbolts ?

Re: HELP Needing some part numbers Ive looked and looked

In post #26 of my overhaul thread (same one I linked you to above) I talk about this AND link you to a place in my blogs where I discuss it more. Here are my quotes regarding push-rods & head bolts:

Here's the quotes from part 13 of my blogs:

Perhaps they over-torqued or weren't using a torque wrench , but this is a commonly debated subject. Its a subject each mechanic should consider and many choose to purchase all new head bolts. These are relatively inexpensive and readily available. As a result I decided to go with new. The big ones are Toyota part #90105-12056 and sell for $4.60 each (MSRP). The washers are part #90201-13021 and go for $1.35 each. I was comfortable reusing the smaller bolts on the passenger side, but replaced all 10 big bolts & washers.

These are Toyota part #13781-73010 and sell for ~$11.15 each (MSRP) There are 8 of them.
Since making those posts my position hasn't changed. In a nutshell, it all comes down to a judgement call. If I'm trying to save money (as I was in my overhaul thread), unless there's some reason I don't trust them, I'll typically re-use. If I'm spending a bunch of money on a complete rebuild (as I was in my blog post) I will usually opt for new push-rods & head bolts. Tim

PS: Considering the amount of time/effort you put into a head gasket, it really doesn't take much time to read all the way through the places I linked you to. There's also tons of information in the forum regarding head gaskets, injectors, etc. Just use the search feature and read. When I made those posts I tried to address everything that's important...........

Here's another good thread regarding head gaskets: http://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/s...ng-Head-Gasket

I spent a lot of time here on TVT thoroughly documenting engine mechanical. I also hide lots of links in my posts that will take you to other threads and/or places to purchase parts (this is more prevalent on my newer threads). Anywhere you see blue print, hover your cursor there to see if it's a clickable link. Tim

Re: HELP Needing some part numbers Ive looked and looked

Thanks All, You guys are great ! I have an old laptop and an older abused brain , so sometimes these things are hard to find and reference . EXACTLY what I was looking for and now that I can reference from one place its a whole lot easier . I know I had seen some of these before , but just could not find them .

I guess Im gonna stick with the original push-rods and head-bolts , as a matter of cost .I just cant see them braking ,esp if you clean them and the threads well

I have my used injectors boxed to send to Dr Injector on Monday , as well as a grommet for the o-rings on it . If he can supply the connectors at a good price , I'll get them from him . I'll use them on my buddys van , and then send four more to rehab for mine .

Ive almost finished my list of parts to buy , just gonna see if I can afford all the Toyota hoses , so I can have them on hand if needed for the 86 and then the 87 .

Dr. Injector is great, but I would ask them to reuse the old injector screens or replace with OEM Toyota-I don't think his screens had the same surface area and micron filter.

I tend to agree. I don't like the plastic crap they are using now. Last time I sent him injectors I included a new set of OEM Bosch stainless steel screens. Here's some pics I took of the screens before and after installation:

Yes Tim Madmax ....life threw me some (bad) speedbumps in the last couple years , so I havnt had internet access , etc etc for a while . Now I have my liscence , insurence and my 87 4x4 working ...mostly . I hope to be more involved in the Toyota world . I may have dropped the ball on several things a couple years ago , if any come to mind I have no problem correcting them .

well, I think way back when ....(before two more children ) I left somebody hangin on some parts , if it comes up Ill be happy to make it right .

ATM I am having a hard time finding surgetank , throttle body and egr gaskets , some of these sites will let you order it and then tell you its outta stock two weeks later , I got no problem making the egr gasket ...the others I desperately need for myself and two other vans .
