Hi Everyone.
I just picked up a JDM TownAce (diesel, 4x4) with a fiberglass camper body on it. I believe they were built on top of the truck TownAce platform....so there is a frame under there somewhere.
Does anyone have any experience adding a hitch to a TownAce platform with a camper body on it?
Thanks!

There's a few good threads here. Use the search feature in the upper right hand corner of your screen. If that doesn't give you what you want, use google. in the google search box type in "toyotavantech.com" then the search terms you desire. They should give you links to the exact thread you need. Good luck and welcome to TVT! :wave1:

Well, I would suggest to go to someone, who is somewhat competent at welding, and is willing to look underneath the vehicle.
But what do you want to attach to the hitch?
The thing is, by looking at the pictures of your camper (which, by the way, I think is absolutely awesome, if I ever found one for sale over here, I would get it in a second)
You are going to have a very long hitch overhang, and a townace has a very short wheelbase. This is the worst possible combination for towing. For one any motion in the trailer will have a massive effect on the direction your van will be going. And the hitch/nosewheel of the trailer are going to hit the ground, because you are going the have the worst possible breakover angle.
If you want a bicycle rack on it... maybe, or a very tiny trailer. In the manual for a normal, non-camper-van, it states that the maximum towing capacity is 2000lbs. With the extra weight of the camper on the back and longer overhang, I wouldn't attempt more than half that for any substantial distance.

Thanks for the input!
To clarify, I am hoping to be able to occasionally tow my 3 rail dirt bike trailer (about 350 lbs) with 1 or 2 enduro bikes on it. So a total of about 750 lbs. With the manual tranny I'm sure I can tow it without any increased wear and tear, and without trailer brakes. Thanks for the info on the towing capacity. Is that for a regular TownAce?
If you want more photos, let me know! It's getting a new webasto put in at the moment, but should have it back next week.
