I just got a 1986 Toyota Van (automatic transmission). I already have a 1985 Van with an auto trans as well. The '85 trans has 4 speeds with an overdrive switch on the shifter console. Today I test drove the '86 and noticed that it doesn't have an overdrive switch. When I drove on the highway, it seemed like it didn't shift past 3rd. Wikipedia seemed to say that these vans has a 3-speed and 4-speed option for the automatic transmissions. Has anyone heard of a 3-speed auto trans on these vans and where do I find out the model # of the trans? Is there an info plate somewhere that has the trans number? The door jamb vin plate doesn't mention it.

Nevermind.... I just realized that in the 2nd gens ('86), the overdrive switch is in the shifter handle, not on the console.

Good on ya, a 3-speed wasn't offered with our vans (thankfully) although the first and 2nd gens both share a 4-speed, they do have their minute differences being if yours is a first gen 2wd automatic (which has an A44DL) or a second gen 2wd automatic (which is an A45DL) but there could also be some differences if it's a 2WD or 4WD too. I just know the 2WD ones off the top of my head :silvervan:
