Is there a difference between the oil filter housings on the manual versus automatic vans? I see different part numbers on toyota-usa.epc-data.com for them. The gaskets are the same numbers so I imagine the housings can be interchanged?

According to my source, the following part numbers (Between a 1989 Automatic and your 1987 Manual) are what I found different:
1989 Automatic Oil Filter Bracket: 15609-71011
Now for your van's specs:
1983-1986 oil filter bracket: 15609-71010
1986-1989 oil filter bracket: 15609-71011
Id imagine they COULD be similar, but maybe it was updated. If anyone has both housings and can compare them to see, that would be helpful to visually confirm at least. Hope this does help out a bit

This is what I am finding. https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/van/yr32lv/2300/engine/1502/15609/ is the automatic transmission. https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/van/yr32lv/2298/engine/1502/15609/ is the manual transmission. I'm adding an oil filter relocation kit so that's what has me interested in the housings.

My understanding was that auto vans have a sandwich type oil cooler between the filter and the mount and the manuals did not but I could be wrong. I am also unsure if 4WD made a difference in this as both of my vans are 4WD autos that have the sandwich cooler. The cooler adds a couple inches of height which makes the oil filter a different size for the manual vs auto although I've had no trouble using the taller manual filters on my auto vans. Hope this helps in some way.
