Heh y’all! First post here, but no stranger
to the forum !
This is an 87 4ye.. so my van has run a little rough since I’ve had it the last two years but it has gotten much worse. It started out mostly just when the engine was under load like accelerating or going up a hill, it kind of feels similar to when you are missing spark on one cylinder, but I think it’s still firing on all four just intermittent on some or all of them. It wasn’t too big of an issue because you could drive around it, but it’s gotten worse and some times is stuck in this barely running mode. You can feel it kind of switch back-and-forth between running well and running bad.
here are some things I have investigated thus far… Fuel delivery, have changed fuel filter. And when the engine shuts off or is running really rough you can smell raw gas, so I don’t think it’s a fuel
delivery issue
with use of a timing light you can see that all four cylinders are firing at idle and that they all lose some spark when RPMs increase, though timing lights don’t always read spark well at higher RPMs.
Spark plug wires are newer and appear to be in good shape, no signs of shorting out
distributor cap appears to be in good shape visually and i’ve cleaned it up, and there are no visual signs of the coil shorting out.
ALLRIGHT, WHAT ARE YOU THOUGHTS?! Could this be a timing issue? Something like a vacuum advance? Some air sensor? Anyone have similar problems before?
thanks so much!!!
