Trying to revive my dads van.
Just pulled code 2 and 8 for my van that starts but stalls.
My van cranks and fires up but stalls and dies after a second. I checked spark and fuel. Plugs were very wet. Code 2 and 8 are the air circuit/air flow meter and air temp sensor.
Does this make sense with the stalling? If it was able to turn over not sure how it isn’t getting enough anir. Enough air to start but or not enough to run?
would love some advice before I hunt down and replace that part.
thanks.

Before replacing anything, I'd check the wiring connectors for those components and make sure they're connected and that there is no corrosion build-up in them. Maybe disconnect the wiring connectors and spray the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, reconnect them and see if it makes a difference. I've had many wiring runs corroded in the connectors when I got my van. It could possibly be a cheap and easy fix.

I'd also take off the rubber intake hose from the airflow meter housing to look inside and make sure none of the components are seized-up. Maybe spray some contact cleaner or carb cleaner in there as well to get rid of any build-up,

Okay. Got the air flow meter out and the connectors and internals look really good and clean. Parts move free. Did see possible small vaccuum leaks after the meter. But not seeing anything really suspect. Put it back together and cleared the codes. Now I get Code 6?!?? Help!
getting deeper and deeper into the labyrinthÂ….

According to the fault guide:http://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/content.php?195-Diagnostic-Codes-for-Toyota-Vanwagons-all-years, one source of all codes could be a fault with the ECU (computer). Maybe check the wiring connector on the ECU, just to make sure that's not loose or corroded either.

One last thing to rule out the fuel pump shutting off when starting because of a faulty fuel pump switch in that box on the air filter housing (that shuts off the fuel when no airflow to the intake is detected), is to jumper the fuel pump test connector and try starting the van then and see if it stays running. If it does, that would mean that switch is bad or the plate that swings open when air is flowing through it is jammed.

Okay got the codes cleared but still stalling. Changed out the distributor and that solved the Code 6. Old one wasn't sending Ne signal during cranking from what I gather now. But sill not running yet. Will start new thread. Thanks for the help so far.
