Hey everyone. I just purchased my first Toyota Van (1986) for $3,000 today. It has 88,000 miles on it and is in great shape cosmetically. She has a few misfires and I have very little history of the car. I bought this as a project car to work on with my brother. Since I don't know the history of the vehicle I am planning to replace the following parts.

-Thermostat
-Plugs/wires
-Power steering pump
-Alternator
-Fuel pump
-Water pump
-Distributor cap

I've done a fair amount of research prior to buying the car on each of these repairs but am looking for any advice on tools/sprays/adaptors that will make my life easier as I replace these parts. My end goal is to have her as a weekend car/occasional cruise. Thanks!

Looks like a nice van!
but to replace those parts, i don’t think you need more than a metric socket set, or a set of metric box end wrenches and a spark plug wrench.
only for the fuel pump, you could encounter some nice crusty bolts, that hold up the brackets of the fuel tank and hose clamps.

if you have to do the power steering, alternator and thermostat, it makes sense to do them all at once. The thermostat is a lot easier with the alternator out of the way. And if you spill fluids with the power steering pump, it won’t leak in the alternator when it is not there

Thanks I'll keep this in mind. I have seen some videos where they've used misc. tools to get at clips and things where a normal hand wouldn't reach- just was curious for anything that may help. It's going to be a journey getting all of that done
