Hey folks!

This is my first thread but I've been lurking ever since I started researching my van purchase a couple years back. I finally snagged one I love. It's an '88 4WD JDM Townace.

I'm looking for the power window components and the only other thread I could find via search was one from Timsrv several years ago and it was locked, so I titled this the same. Feel free to combine if needed.

I took my van to the shop and the day after I realized my driver side switch was broken. It already had been locked in place because of the passenger side slave issue that's been talked about before.

Of course, these frigging window electronics are scarcer than unobtanium, so here I am.

I have found an 80s/90s MR2 panel that looks insanely similar to ours, but they are also a few hundred dollars at best.

My question to the group is this:

I'm pretty good in CAD and have about every kind of fabrication machine you can think of from lasers to 3D printers to CNC, etc. I'm curious if from an electronics perspective if I was to CAD up a new panel for our door cards that would accommodate another set of switches that is more common, is that actually possible? It seems the functions are largely the same with power windows? If we can all agree on an accessible set of switches that we would all like I'd be MORE than happy to design a panel for us all that we could post up on the site and folks could print their own. Hell I might even print up a few dozen in the beginning just so anyone else with the issue could snatch one cheap and DIY their window situation away.

Anyhow, there are ton's of other things I'll be fabricating for my ride over the next several months. I'll keep you all posted in case there is any interest. I'm already working on an inside door handle insert since mine had the screw retainer broken off. Once it's satisfactory I'll post it up for folks.

Cheers, and thanks for any help!

I think that is a great idea. I do not have a 3d printer or any experience with it, I was considering, making one out of plastic and glue, and use generic window and lock switches in the panel. There is no electronics in the panel at all, so it is just a matter of following the pins to the switches.
The only things that kept me from doing that (yet), is that I have to figure out an alternative for the connector itself. Either replace it on both ends, as in, cutting the one from the van, or somehow cutting the plug from the existing panel. Both thing I kind of don't like, as I managed to sort of fix the existing panel, for now (except the window lock button), but all of the other switches work again.

Maybe I can order one for a suzuki escudo / vitara, and see if the electrical connections are the same, that would be a cheap, easily available and simple solution.

Hey, having the same issue now with my 1989. Curious if you ever came to a solution?
