I’m hearing a ‘whine’ (sounds like a turbo) not loud when I’m moving in gear. No whine when in neutral. Does a manual transmission have fluid that I can check / change?

if it only happens in reverse then it is normal. reverse gears are usually straight cut gears instead of helical like the rest and make a whining sound. there isnt a dipstick on the transmission. you can see if the fluid level is low by trying to add some gear oil and seeing if it takes a lot to fill up or if it almost immediately starts to dribble back out of the filler plug. iirc the manual transmission takes nearly 3qts of gear oil so if you have to add a lot of gear oil before it starts coming back out the hole then you are/were low on oil.

It’s making the whine when driving forward. I’m going to he k the gear oil / trans level as you suggest.
thank you!
