Hi, toyvan gang! So happy this community is still running strong!

It's been a while since I've posted, and unfortunately, it's due to neglect as life got in the way.

My van has been sitting for a few years, and I committed the ultimate sin by not treating the fuel or running it. To make matters worse, I needed to move it last week quickly and had trouble siphoning. I did at least fog the cylinders, but in a panic I decided to dilute the bad fuel with new clean fuel instead because I didn't have time siphon.

It fired right up and ran okay intermittently rough. I figured it was slowly burning through bad fuel and water, however, after a few minutes it began to simply run for a few seconds and then stall. So. . .

Does anyone have any advice about the best plan of action from here? This is what I thought to do.

Replace the fuel filter.
Add a simple inline universal clear fuel filter before the regular one to monitor the gas.
Try find an effective additive that will mix with the water to help me burn through it.
Then give it a go again.

Or, is it necessary to drop the tank and empty it completely to clean out all gunk instead first? I'd like to avoid this if I don't have to, and I've never done it before.

Thanks in advance!

Hey! I'm currently restoring an '85 that sat for years so I just went through this. Why don't you use the drain plug on the tank and see what kind of gas comes out. It is just a 3/8" square drive. If it's not all rusty and full of pieces (like mine was) just refill it with fresh gas. Good luck! :dance2:

I'll give that a try. Thanks so much for the tip!
