Can you leave off the rear PCV hose like in these photos?

I'm in the process of an exhaust manifold replacement on my '86 2WD and noticed in these photos from Tim's incredibly helpful "weekend project" thread that in the nearly reinstalled engine the rear PCV hose (Toyota part# 12261-73021) is absent... Mine cracked when I removed it (along with the grommet in the valve cover) and I'm curious if there's an alternative to replacing them that I don't know about. Tim, if you're reading, you're a saint!
