Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor

I got this taken apart, but I've never done this, and the manual doesn't get into details on how to clean this.
I see what looks like hot glue on there. Was there originally supposed to be a gasket under there and when someone replaced it they glued it?
I would guess the best thing to do is rip all that glue off, take it out, spray it with Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner, then screw it back together and put more glue on there.

That is a vane airflow meter. It isn't the type of mass airflow meter the requires cleaning. That isn't hot glue. It's factory sealed. It shouldn't need any cleaning inside.

How do you test the Mass Air Flow Sensor? I've found helpful videos on YT but they're only for 4 wire systems, and it appears the 91 I have is a 5 wire.
