Hey Guys,
my 1995 toyota liteace with the 4-yec motor has currently no rpm-gauge in the cluster.
i want to upgrade it with a aftermarket one. so my question is: where can i hook up the rpm signal?
distributor, ecu or somewhere else? if i am right there is no coil?
thanks and greetings from switzerland

Welcome ! 1984-1989 US Vans are covered here mainly as the US got the Previa after the van in 1990- through 1997. The only thing in common with your Van is the 4Y-EC engine and even the 1995 iteration of the 4Y-EC is not exactly the same as the one in US vans. The wiring and accessories would have nothing in Common so the diagrams for the US van would not apply to you and subsequently be of little or no help.

Hey JPERL,
thanks for you reply, didn't know that. They're rare in europe as well. We don't have a lot of previas though.

The gauge should include directions on where to wire it to the coil. OBD1 Toyotas are handy that they have an ignition signal at the diagnostics connector (Ig-) I've used that with success in the past.

Hi There,
unfortunatly my diagnose box doesn't have the IG- wired up.
I guess i need to take it from the ecu?!

Hello and welcome to the forum, some of the parts should be similar to US vans, well at least that's what I've found with my TownAce which is a YR21 3YEU.
Try using the search feature for some of your inquires, there's a lot of good information that's been covered and if you post in the threads that's most similar to what your experiencing you'll have better luck problem solving.
Take a look at this thread regarding the Engine Service Connector-
https://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/content.php?196-Engine-Service-Connector
If you have a ESC this will get you started in the right direction.
Report back if you have the same engine setup in your van, good luck.

Cheers Janis
