So the starter fuse listed at 7.5A on my vans fuse cluster under the dash blows out anytime I put a 7.5 in as indicated and then the van wont start. However if I put in a 15A it starts up fine.
I recently changed the starter out with a refurbished Delco. Could this be the issue? Am I risking any further issues by using a larger fuse?

Thanks!

Original fuse rating is in place to protect circuit...yes you can damage by using larger fuse. Locate the problem.

Ok, well I've traced the starter circuit from one of Tim's posts and didn't come up with anything besides an issue in the solenoid with a bad solder point that I fixed.

Anyone have an idea why this fuse is blowing out @ 7.5 and not at 10 or 15?

Where should I start the investigation?

Ignition coil and line running to starter is looking fine. Fusible links all look good.

Not that it's your refurby starter but I had a bad one that was a bosch refurb that did weird things. If you have access to another starter that's original, try it. Otherwise it's pulling too much current so somewhere you have wires that are corroded/not making good contact.

I do have the original back home, I'll switch it out and test. I bought this one hoping it would solve a few issues but I think it may be the culprit.

Thanks for the input!
