Have a slight weep of coolant between the backing plate behind the water pump and the block just below the stud that runs through the water pump at the top into the block . Has anyone found an easy fix ? Or met with this problem , looks like a bastard as all timeing gear will have to be removed ?

Cheers.
Not many hiace owners here, or in the states.

What motor?
Likely need to replace the pump in the very near future.

thanks Ace motors a 4Y , I am replacing the water pump , but the leak is between the alloy casing the pump bolts to and the engine block near the top stud that run through the pump and casing into the block . It's the same casing as back of timing gear . Thanks for other site , ile have a squiz .

Sounds like the timing chain case gasket is leaking. You would need to remove timing chain and gears to remove the timing chain case
