I did not drive for a few days and the battery was dead, nothing showing up on dash. The key had been left in the ignition which in the past has caused the battery to drain. Tried to jump it, charge light came on,but nothing happened when I turned the key. Started to smell something hot so I stopped.Smell was not by the battery. Put the battery on a trickle charge over night. No change...charger light coming on when the key was turned....headlights could be turned on...but no other signs of electrical life. I took the battery up to napa to be checked. They said it was fine and charged. When I took the battery out I noticed one of the wire connections on the positive post was broken. I found another connector and reconnected the wire. Still no change...I don't know if it was broken before or if it broke when I took the battery out for testing.
I am not a mechanic....just a lover of these old vans. It will be weeks before I can get it in to be worked on. Is there anything else I might check next? I happened on the Fusible Link thread...might it be the AM1 fusible link . Thanks for any help.
