I have a 89 townace with the rotating double bench in the middle. I want to get an extra seat into the middle row and remove the back seats for cargo. I'm having a hard time tracking down one of the little single folding seats that goes next to the double bench. Does anyone know if a rear bench will fit into the middle?

Or does anyone have another suggestion for more seating?

Its a 1989 townace 4x4 diesel rhd imported from Japan.

That extra seat as well as the rotating center bench was not available on US vans so you may have to source that from another JDM van in Canada. As far as the rear bench fitting the center, anything is possible with fabrication which would likely be necessary to fit anything else to the center.

You need to join a Japan ordering proxy service. I use www.fromjapan.co.jp (http://www.fromjapan.co.jp) for all my hard to find parts. The site searches multiple Japanese sites at once including Yahoo auctions Japan and Amazon Japan. I have found lots of parts for my 1989 TownAce and I've seen seats on there several times. It wouldn't be cheap to ship a full seat from Japan, but it's possible. My guess is the seat itself would cost you around $100 with the proxy fees included and the shipping would be at least $200...probably more.

You pay for everything with PayPal which automatically converts USD to JPY. A little tip to help you find more parts. Go to Google Translate first and translate "TownAce" and "Seat" separately into Japanese. Then before you press enter in the search box make sure the drop down menu is set to search in Japanese (instead of English).
I saved you the trouble this time, but use the technique for future searches. タウンエース シート

Also I forgot to mention to verify the seats will fit in your van (besides visually matching them) look for the code CR10, CR20, CR30. That is the van series similar to our TownAce's and will most likely bolt in. For instance my '89 is a CR32. However I have not yet found a perfect way to make sure which code is best for my can. I believe that last things I bought (headlights and tail lights) were listed under code CR20.

Once you see a seat that looks correct, click on the listing. The description will be in Japanese. Click "translate" to see it in English. If you're already registered with the site simply click "buy now" or "bid" to buy the item. You will receive instructions from the website on how to proceed. It may seem a little overwhelming at first, but honestly after your first purchase it will all make perfect sense. This site is a life saver for all my JDM parts.

Super helpful, thanks. I've got a Japanese friend or two that could help if I get stuck with the language too.

Do you know if that little single seat swivels too?

The little seat in mine swivels, recline/incline, and moves back and forth. I keep it in the rear facing position so it never has to be moved when all the kids are loading up. I'll post I picture of the seat tonight if it's still daylight when I get home.

Shipped out today. The part and the shipping total was a little over $300. Not cheap but no where else to really get that seat. I'm gonna sit in it for 3 weeks straight to make up for that shipping cost!

FedEx man had my seat this morning! Fits perfect. Just need some bolts to hold it down.

Can't believe it came from japan in a week.

You gotta love that proxy buying service. I got all my replacement lenses thru them after my van got banged up.

With some modification to floor..anyone know if these seats can be fitted into the US vans? Driver and passenger too... I would love to have some fresh seats and I have always liked the set up in the JDM vans.

Awesome deal! I can't believe it , they wanted $350.00 to ship a middle bench from Oregon to Florida?!?!?! I will try Japan

I think you could adapt the Japanese seats for sure. It's just a threaded hole in the floor. When i took the bolts out to mount the seat i could see right through to the ground. I bet you could just drill straight through as long as you didn't hit something important.

I wish it want grey but it's pretty good. Seat covers will fix it.

Looks great. That's what I was thinking but hoped someone has tried it. Wondering if interior of van is same width and what not.

Now you have the whole bed.
Does your double middle seat lock facing out the slider?
Mine doesn't lock and only rotates towards the window.
I've read about a few mods to get them that way.

My rear seat is on rails but could be bolted in by the 4 legs.
On mine the holes do not allign for a straight swap.

My double seat swivels 180 degrees or 90 degrees. The single seat only goes 180. I kinda like it like that though. It doesn't block the entrance.
