Long before I bought my van I picked up a cooler thinking if I ever got a Toyota van I would want to use it. They are so cool. Ha ha no punn intended. I have all of the brackets etc and my Van does have AC but I just don't know how extensive the plumbing would be. Any thoughts?

They didn't work well in the first place

Thats a good point to consider. I wouldn't know, I've never seen one in use. On a scale of one to ten how well did they work / keep cold. Mine is missing the ice trays but it would be awesome to have ice on a trip.

I always felt mine worked pretty good. I've made ice in it while out 4wheeling on a hot day. I was actually taunting my brothers with the a/c on while they were sweating in there Scout and Subaru. When the kids were infants we used to store bottled breast milk in it while on the road on hot days. Sometimes I would throw water bottles in it to keep them cold. The system is pretty complex though and you'd have to be pretty determined to go through the work involved to install it. Not to mention finding the rest of the plumbing and electrical parts unless that was included with your brackets and etc. My biggest gripe would be stuff not staying cold when I shut off the engine and go in a store or something. Maybe you could mount the cooler and put dry ice on the shelves for the ice cube trays. Then it would still keep cold when you shut off the engine.

If you wanted something that actually works, here you go:

You can leave them hooked to 12v full time - they have an adjustable low voltage cutout that shuts it off if you battery starts to get low.
