how do you access the front heater core to replace it?

It's integrated into the front cooling unit so you have to follow the same procedures as removing the evaporator. I've never done this so I can't say for sure but you'll be working underneath and will need to remove the glove box to access mounting screws. Most of the work will be in removing the various lines for the A/C and heat. The cooling unit can be opened and individual parts inspected/replaced according to the repair manuals.
