I,m leaking oil from the timing chain case gasket, not the cover, but the case. Will attempting that repair present any possible unsolvable or crazy hard problems. Given that the van is running good, should I just let it be or do a timing chain replacement? 1985 van 172,000miles. I have found that using Lucas oil slows the leak to about 1qt per 3000 miles. Some of that could be burned I suppose but no smoke.

On an engine with this many miles I would highly recommend replacing the timing set. If you can afford OEM, I'd recommend going with that (less problems). If however you purchase aftermarket, you should read this post 1st: http://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/showthread.php?2041-Blew-the-rear-main-oil-seal!-Engine-Overhaul&p=12491#post12491. Tim
