I saw this on a Lexus forum and thought I would give it a try. I wanted to make sure it didn't melt before posting this. It doesn't melt. Here are the photos:

I simply cut off the top half of the Clorox bottle.
Placed the alternator inside the bottle..
Started snipping away.

If I were to do it again I would move the hole for the alternator output terminal a bit more forward. The cover then would fit further onto the alternator. The cover is not held by anything.
It just sites loose.

Interesting. I need to do create some sort of shielding for my alternator, report back and let us know how this holds up over time

My concern is limited air flow cooling the alternator.
I would only cover the top 1/2 like an umbella.

Regardless fix your power steering leaks! Make sure no coolant drips from the thermostat housing!

Air flow does not seem to be a problem so far, but this summer will tell for sure and I will post back.

My concern was with air flow as well.

I wasn't just dealing with P/S fluid killing an alternator EVERY year. The front end oil leak was equally destructive. The P/S leak is fixed, but the front end repair is huge and won't happen
any time soon. I installed it in November and right now it's winter, so heat is not a problem. But I will keep an eye on it this summer and post back. I haven't seen beeter solutions to this problem
that affects many many van owners.

Still going strong with no melting or alternator overheating. Will update near the end of the summer.
