Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and begun to restore my mom's Previa. Like the title says. Will it work?

All will fit (physically), but make sure you get it from a naturally aspirated Previa. The supercharged Previa transmissions are heavier duty, but the gear ratio is different (and that would create other issues). Tim

the S/C (A340E) tranny is different and while it bolts up, it will not work... the electronics are different and so the ECU won't know what to do with it!
the 94+ non-S/C still uses the A46DE and should still work

That's interesting. I didn't know they messed with the ECU too. I did a swap like this on my son's Corolla. I put a 4 speed where a 3 speed was. I ended up having to swap the ECU, shifter, and cluster to make it work. I also had to pull several new wires and rewire the ECU harness. It was a big job, but worth it as he gained overdrive (better mpg). Not much to gain on the Previa though, I'd stick with the non S/C transmission for sure. Tim

I'm surprised it even worked right on the AE101.... the 4 speed ECU is meant for the 7A-FE engine as that is what the 4 speed was coupled to... the 3 speed is for the 4A-FE

It was a great improvement. He takes long trips and mileage instantly jumped from around 27mpg to around 35mpg. I did have to add a knock sensor/associated wires to the engine and I put a resistor on the ECU to fool the EGR temperature sense circuit. That was about 4 years ago and it's still performing flawlessly.

my beater is a 93 AE102 I picked up for 5 bills.... it doesn't have any of that EGR nonsense... it makes more power than the later years, so I have been able to surprise quite a few people :D

I'm not sure about the AE102, but the AE101 & 7A-FE are very similar (like the 3y vs the 4y). Basically the same engine block with a shorter stroke and shorter deck height. Castings are near identical........The AE101 even had the boss & mount holes for the knock sensor (even though I don't think that was ever used on them). Tim
PS: Sorry about the hijack, but i think this thread was already played-out.
