i have a problem with my hi ace van 1983. i replaced my alternator about 2 months ago. now my external voltage regulator (up under the dash on floor board) and all warning lights click on and off so quickly. unless i turn on my lights or indicator. i can drive van with lights of but when my revs are low it starts again until i rev it a bit. i have two spare ex/volt regulators that seem to check out good when i test their ohms following my manuals test steps.. when i plug them in they both click fast as well. wondering if they are all faulty or my new alternator or something else? wiring short? relay fuse? :cnfsd:
wondering what to do next. every problem has a solution. i love fixing my van myself. so would like to work it out with your advice.. hope some one can help.. thanks.

p.s i have look at http://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/s...christmas+dash (http://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/showthread.php?90-Change-your-alternator-ILLUSTRATED%21&highlight=christmas+dash)

Have you looked at the fusible link thread? (http://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/showthread.php?136-The-fusible-link-thread&highlight=fusible+link+thread)

It's mandatory reading as well!

Most of us on this forum are from the US. Your charge system is a bit different from ours (all US vans have alternators with internal regulators). Because of that most of us are unfamiliar with external regulators. That being said, it's highly unlikely that 2 or more regulators would exhibit the exact same problem. My guess is it's either a defective alternator or a bad ground. Good luck. Tim

thanks i will check all fuse links and while im at it i will check all wires, especially the earths make sure none are eroded.
i have had problems in past with the warning lights and voltage regulator spazzing out. just never this fast. usually found the problem to be a wire worn through somewhere. blowing a fuse or the warning lights staying on. never continualy clicking very fast unless i turn lights on..
its raining now so i cant work on van.. will keep checking in and updating my progress.
